A shillelagh (pronounced shuh-LAY-lee) is a traditional Gaelic war club crafted from oak or blackthorn saplings in Ireland—woods famously known for being “tougher than an Irish skull.”

This distinctive club-style shillelagh walking cane blends that old-world heritage with modern craftsmanship. It’s surprisingly comfortable, highly functional, and always a great conversation starter.

Our version is available in a variety of exotic hardwood combinations—each one durable enough to honor the spirit of the original. While the classic shillelagh was once used as a weapon, Jim Prevost never recommended using this cane as a club. Today, it stands proudly as a unique walking companion and a piece of Irish tradition.

You can confidently lean on this walking cane. The handle and shaft are securely joined with a heavy-duty hickory dowel, creating an exceptionally strong internal connection. A solid brass ring is fitted between the handle and the shaft, adding both durability and style. This ring reinforces the joint, helping prevent the handle from ever loosening or breaking away from the shaft.

With more than 30 years of woodworking experience, we use only premium hardwoods and high-quality materials in every cane we build. Each cane is handcrafted to order, which means we can customize it to suit your needs. Options include different collars or rings, as well as the addition of screw joints for travel or storage.
